As a huge fan of the 3-Series, I was pretty excited to get behind the wheel of the 5 and see what she would do. While the 5 never had the looks of it’s smaller, sportier looking sibling, I didn’t dislike the old 5’s stylings. The Bangled-styled 5 isn’t bad either, but to me says more of a father’s car than a sports car, yet I was hopeful it would still deliver thrill in the drive.
Unfortunately, it’s more of a father’s car.
There is no doubt that the 255hp engine will help you go fast, and you’ll get there rather quickly, but you never feel like you’re actually moving quickly. The turning is a little slower, the weight transfer is a little more strained, and the throttle a little thicker. The 3 feels like a 6-year-old kid standing at the gate of Disneyland, all you have to do is say “go,” but the 5 feels more like a teenager standing against the wall at the dance; willing to move if asked to, but not going to make the first move without you.

This car ranks right up there with what youd expect from a luxury SUV. Comfortable leather seats, large spacious interior, and a host of extras that make driving easier. However, with all of that, there isnt really a surprise to this car, its exactly what youd expect.

Unlike some other Lexus cars, this one is obviously a descendant of a Toyota, and was referred to as the Land Cruiser for the duration of its test. While it still looks nice, it still kind of gives it just an expensive upgrade look. However, I was pleased with the small, elegant lighting on the running boards that light up when you unlock the doors with the key fob (not sure if that comes with the Toyota or not). It also had good ground clearance but wasnt too hard to climb into.
The interior was very nice. All leather, comfortable seats, wood finish and a host of options. This car had the built in navigation system that was pretty easy to use, AND, the screen doubled as a video monitor when backing up. A small camera mounted just below the rear window gave clear vision of what you were backing up into, and was pretty easy to tell how close you were to upcoming objects. Even I could parallel park this car, a friend exclaimed, which says a lot considering the size of the car and the sloping width that would make it difficult to really see your edges.

From the outside I wont argue with people that think this car is ugly. I like it, but I can understand how many people would feel that is a big, ugly box. In a way it kind of is, but thats part of what I like about it. When I first read about this car, months before it came out, I got all tingly and excited. I loved the idea of a car actually being made with true usability in mind. It was one of the first cars that had an auxiliary audio input built into the dash. I thought that was one of those, duh, why didnt they think of that before type of moments. Also, you can hose out the interior, for someone who snowboards and mountain bikes, I was in love.

I looked at the car and I just really, really hoped that it would hold up to my expectations.

Beautiful car. Absolutely beautiful. The new Aston Martin was announced today and it simply stunned the crowd. With a V8, it is the smaller and lighter version of the Vanquish. Everyone there was suddenly put into a series of lustful urges. One woman I talked to said she was #29 on the list, and is anxiously anticipating her new toy to be delivered. That was the general consensus. One guy was overheard saying, “I really want this car, but honestly, I should really only have about a dozen cars, and I have 23 already.” Just to paint a picture of the crowd. Aston Martin did a wonderful job putting on the party, nice food, plenty of drinks, a small gathering that made you feel like you were part of a club… Wait, we were at Pebble Beach, it was a bunch of Aston Martin owners and dealers… It was an exclusive club. What was I doing there?
All-in-all, this car is seen as a new creation with classic styling, and an object of desire. Enjoy the pictures.

My opinions on cars can be a little utilitarian sometimes. While I love really fast and sexy cars, it is hard to truly imagine some of them actually being useful on a day-to-day basis. In the back of my mind, I always am comparing sporting performance with what would it really be like to drive this car in traffic on a Friday afternoon in the summertime at 99 degrees, or in the snow the four times a year we get any. Could this be my only car?
This is exactly why the Audi S4 is so dreamy.
From the outside, it is a fairly unassuming car. If you are not familiar with Audis you wouldn’t know that the ‘S’ made this car anything special. It doesn’t scream mid-life crisis, and it isn’t bright red with a wing or mesh grill. It just has a nice, well-balanced exterior with a little sport tucked away. When you get in, it’s very comfortable, and you feel a little pampered. I definitely see a similarity between this interior and BMW’s, which is a nice, elegant aesthetic with very clean instrument panel (I’m speaking of the 3 series, not the iDrive of the 5 and 7).
