The GT40 kind of back, again.

Autoblog is reporting that the classic GT40 is being produced by Superperformance, maker of the best built AC “don’t-call-it-a-kit-car” Cobra.

GT40 Fast-Autos.net has a road test and a beautiful photo gallery over on their site.

Yesterday afternoon I got asked to drive a Volkswagen Thing to the other side of town. It was being shipped to its new owner, and had to get dropped off at the shipping office. On the way back I drove a 2006 Land Rover LR3. Today, I again drove across town in a 1963 split-window Corvette, to be dropped off at the doctor for a few repairs. The drive back was in a 1978 Porsche 911SC. This morning, I drove to work in my daily Honda Accord Wagon, but left work with a Honda Element EX for the weekend. Two days, the keys and wheel of six different cars. All very different experiences.

What follows really isn’t a review, I haven’t drove any of the cars more than 10 miles, but it is a comparison of the differing experiences.

  • Aston Martin Vantage Preview Party

Beautiful car. Absolutely beautiful. The new Aston Martin was announced today and it simply stunned the crowd. With a V8, it is the smaller and lighter version of the Vanquish. Everyone there was suddenly put into a series of lustful urges. One woman I talked to said she was #29 on the list, and is anxiously anticipating her new toy to be delivered. That was the general consensus. One guy was overheard saying, “I really want this car, but honestly, I should really only have about a dozen cars, and I have 23 already.” Just to paint a picture of the crowd. Aston Martin did a wonderful job putting on the party, nice food, plenty of drinks, a small gathering that made you feel like you were part of a club… Wait, we were at Pebble Beach, it was a bunch of Aston Martin owners and dealers… It was an exclusive club. What was I doing there?

All-in-all, this car is seen as a new creation with classic styling, and an object of desire. Enjoy the pictures.
