Review: 2005 Honda Element

From the outside I wont argue with people that think this car is ugly. I like it, but I can understand how many people would feel that is a big, ugly box. In a way it kind of is, but thats part of what I like about it. When I first read about this car, months before it came out, I got all tingly and excited. I loved the idea of a car actually being made with true usability in mind. It was one of the first cars that had an auxiliary audio input built into the dash. I thought that was one of those, duh, why didnt they think of that before type of moments. Also, you can hose out the interior, for someone who snowboards and mountain bikes, I was in love.

I looked at the car and I just really, really hoped that it would hold up to my expectations.

Well, after it being out for a few years, I finally got behind the wheel this week and it is everything I hoped it would be. Obviously, this car isnt for everybody. If you want a fast car, this isnt it (although, its peppy for its size and gas mileage) if you want a sexy car, this isnt it (yet there are the right types of girls that think its really cool), if you want a luxurious type of car, this isnt it (although, I hate the leather interior in my car). But if you want a car that is really roomy inside, a car that is a breeze to load full of stuff, a car that is fun and turns in a tight radius, easy to park and take into the woods, but still sorta feels like a car This is your baby.

And, for me, its perfect. I can say without hesitation that this really will be my next car. I love it. U-turns are a breeze, parallel parking is done in 2 turns, four people pile in and I dont have to move my driver seat forward, I can change lanes in busy California traffic and not have to worry about if I missed something. Plus, I have to admit, this car is exactly in sync with my social requirements/desires. Im outdoorsy (most of the time) and Im messy (with muddy bikes, not fast food bags), so this car just fits me.

Also, the back-end clamshells open with a small tailgate that makes a great bench. The top half opens to protect you from the rain or sun overhead. Every time I go hiking or mountain biking, Im always trying to change into my riding or hiking shoes at the trailhead, so I really appreciate this. Instant changing room.

Honestly, this car just fits my life. 5 stars.
